چکیده

Proteins in solution move subject to a complex superposition of global translational and rotational diffusion as well as internal relaxations covering a wide range of time scales. With the advent of new high-flux neutron spectrometers in combination with enhanced analysis frameworks it has become possible to separate these different contributions. We discuss new approaches to the analysis by presenting example spectra and fits from data recorded on the backscattering spectrometers IN16, IN16B, and BASIS on the same protein solution sample. We illustrate the separation of the rotational and translational diffusion contribution, the accurate treatment of the solvent contribution, and the extraction of information on internal fluctuations. We also exemplify the progress made in passing from secondto third-generation backscattering spectrometers.

A Mössbauer spectroscopy and neutron diffraction study of magnetostrictive, melt-spun Fe-Ga alloy ribbons

Ribbons of Fe100−xGax (x = 15, 17.5, 19.5 and 22.5) were prepared by rapid solidification from the melt. Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy and high resolution neutron diffraction have revealed that Fe100xGax alloys with x = 15 and 17.5 have the disordered bcc (A2) structure even after annealing, but the alloy with x = 19.5 developed the short-range ordered D03 phase when annealed. The x = 22.5 alloys s...

Structure of the coat protein in Pf1 bacteriophage determined by solid-state NMR spectroscopy.

The atomic resolution structure of Pf1 coat protein determined by solid-state NMR spectroscopy of magnetically aligned filamentous bacteriophage particles in solution is compared to the structures previously determined by X-ray fiber and neutron diffraction, the structure of its membrane-bound form, and the structure of fd coat protein. These structural comparisons provide insights into several...

Investigation of microstructure in additive manufactured Inconel 625 by spatially resolved neutron transmission spectroscopy

Non-destructive testing techniques based on neutron imaging and diffraction can provide information on the internal structure of relatively thick metal samples (up to several cm), which are opaque to other conventional non-destructive methods. Spatially resolved neutron transmission spectroscopy is an extension of traditional neutron radiography, where multiple images are acquired simultaneousl...

Optical and Nano structural properties of Hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanorods in interaction with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) Protein Solution

Hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanorods were synthesized by hydrothermal method using Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a surfactant agent. To study optical, nanostructural properties, and to control the morphology and shape of nanorods, 0.025 mol L-1, 0.05 mol L-1 and 0.1 mol L-1 concentration of CTAB were used. Moreover, the effect of interaction between bovine serum albumin (BSA) A9418-5G protein...

Spectroscopy of neutron rich nuclei using cold neutron induced fission of actinide targets at the ILL: The EXILL campaign

One way to explore exotic nuclei is to study their structure by performing -ray spectroscopy. At the ILL, we exploit a high neutron flux reactor to induce the cold fission of actinide targets. In this process, fission products that cannot be accessed using standard spontaneous fission sources are produced with a yield allowing their detailed study using high resolution -ray spectroscopy. This i...
